Invitation messages
Wedding invitation messages for WhatsApp
Short answer
A good wedding invitation message names who is inviting, whose wedding it is, the date and the city, and where to find the details. Keep it under 60 words and put the names and date in the first line, because that is all WhatsApp shows in the notification. Match the tone to the reader: formal for elders, warm for relatives, easy for friends.
Updated · Aaiyega, New Delhi
Most wedding invitations in India now arrive on WhatsApp. The card is designed for weeks; the message that goes with it is typed in a minute, and it is the part people actually read. Below are more than 80 messages to copy, sorted by who is sending them and who they are for. Change the words in [brackets] and they are ready to send.
- What every message should include
- Formal messages from parents and from the couple
- Short messages, for elders and in Hindi and Hinglish
- For each function, unique ones and reminders
What should a wedding invitation message include?
Five things, in this order: who is inviting, whose wedding, the day and date, the city or venue, and where the details are (the card or the invite link). Then the line every Indian invitation ends with, “please do come”, and a reply-by date if you are counting plates.
The first line matters most. WhatsApp shows only the opening words in the chat list and in the notification, so “[Bride] and [Groom] are getting married on [Date]” works better than “Namaste, hope you and the family are keeping well”. Keep the pleasantries for the second line.

How to send it so people actually read it
- Call or visit elders first. A WhatsApp message after a phone call is welcome; a message instead of one can feel careless.
- Names and date in the first line. That is the part people see in the notification and the chat list.
- One message, not three. Put the card or link in the same message. Separate forwards get separated.
- Personal chats for people who matter. Group messages are easy to miss. Send close relatives and friends their own.
- Ask for a reply only if you need it, and give a date. “Please reply by 1 December” gets answers; “let us know” doesn't.
- Send everything at once, not over a week. People compare notes; a cousin who hears from another cousin first will notice.
A link does more than a PDF here: guests tap for the map of each venue, add the functions to their calendar and reply in a minute, and if a timing changes you edit it once. That is what an invitation website on WhatsApp is for.
