Card wording
Wedding card matter for your daughter's wedding
Short answer
A wedding card for your daughter's marriage is written from the bride's side: Ganesh at the top, “हमारी सुपुत्री आयु. [वधू]” first, then चि. [वर] with his parents and city, then the baraat arrival, the ceremony with its muhurat and the venue, and स्वागतोत्सुक with your family's names. Below are Hindi and English samples and messages to send with the card.

What goes on the card from the bride's side?
- मंगलाचरण: ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥, a shloka, or your कुलदेवी's name.
- Your daughter: आयु. or सौ.कां. [वधू], सुपुत्री श्री … एवं श्रीमती …, and पौत्री if grandparents are named.
- The groom: चि. [वर], सुपुत्र श्री … एवं श्रीमती …, with his city.
- Functions before the wedding: haldi, mehendi, sangeet, as your family holds them.
- बारात आगमन and पाणिग्रहण संस्कार: the time the baraat arrives and the muhurat of the pheras.
- विदाई: optional, with the time if guests are invited.
- स्वागतोत्सुक / दर्शनाभिलाषी: your family's names and the children's line.
पौत्री is a son's daughter, used with her dada and dadi's names; with her nana and nani, she is their दौहित्री. Some families also name the person performing the kanyadaan when it is not the father, for example an uncle or grandfather; write it the way your family will say it at the mandap.
