Invitation messages
Save the date messages and captions
Short answer
A save the date message tells guests the wedding date and city before the invitation, so they can book travel and leave. For an Indian wedding, send it three to six months ahead, earlier for a destination wedding or guests abroad. Keep it to the names, the date and the city, and say a full invitation follows. Below are 40 save the date messages and captions to copy.

A save the date is the first thing guests hear about the wedding: the date and the city, nothing more. On WhatsApp it is a short message, usually with a photo of the couple; on Instagram it is a post with a caption. Below are save the date messages for family groups and friends, captions and quotes for Instagram, and a few for destination weddings.

What is a save the date, and do Indian weddings need one?
A save the date asks people to keep a date free before the invitation is ready. It carries the names, the date and the city, and a line that the invitation will follow. It does not carry venues or timings, because those often change.
Many Indian weddings skip it, and that is fine for a local wedding with the invitation going out six weeks ahead. It helps most when guests will travel, take leave or book hotels, or when the date falls in a crowded season and people's calendars fill early.
When should you send a save the date for an Indian wedding?
Our advice: three to six months before for a wedding in your home city, and six months or more for a destination wedding, guests abroad, or a date in the busiest weeks of the season. Send it only once the date is fixed with the families and the pandit or venue; a changed save the date causes more trouble than none.
Send it only to people you will definitely invite. Someone who gets a save the date and then no invitation will remember it.

What to send with it
Most couples send a photo: an engagement picture, a pre-wedding shoot or a simple selfie. Aaiyega doesn't make save the date photos or cards; the photo is yours, and any phone camera does the job. What matters more is that the date and city are in the text, so they can be searched in the chat later.
When the invitation is ready, send it in the same chat so the save the date and the invitation sit together. That is when a link helps: an Aaiyega invite opens with every function, the venue map and RSVP. For what to write then, see the wedding invitation messages; for the days in between, the wedding countdown captions; and if a roka comes first, the engagement invitation messages.
