## Roka, sagai or ring ceremony: what changes in the invite?

Families use the words differently. In many North Indian families the **roka** is the first, small function where both sides formally agree to the match, often at home with close family. The **sagai** or **ring ceremony** follows, with rings exchanged in front of a larger gathering, sometimes with a dinner. Some families combine the two, and in other regions the same function has its own name, like the sakharpuda or nichayathartham.

An engagement card is shorter than a wedding card. It usually has, in this order:

2. The hosts: the parents or both families.
